Unadilla Valley 9, Oxford 7
OXFORD – A five-run first inning catapulted UV into the lead Wednesday as the Storm regrouped from its poor showing Monday.
Brandon Kuhn hit a two-run double in the opening frame, and Kurt Haycook followed with an RBI single.
Oxford chopped three runs off of that deficit in its opening at-bat. Andrew Golden tripled in one run, and Matt Moore along with Kevin Davis drove in runs. The Blackhawks, though, didn’t score again until the bottom of the seventh.
“There are a lot of even teams in our league, and it’s the team that puts seven innings together that will win games,” said Oxford coach Chris Palmer. “UV put a couple of guys on base early in the game, and was able to capitalize.”
Moore had two hits and drove in three runs to lead the Blackhawks. Richard Ryan added two hits and one RBI.

Hamilton 5, S-E 4 (9 innings)
HAMILTON – Hamilton rallied against Sherburne-Earlville not once, but twice in Wednesday’s non-league win in nine innings.
The Emerald Knights scored three times in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. Zach Dowe’s RBI single with two outs tied the game at 3-3. Hamilton seemingly earned the walk-off win when one of its batters was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The home plate umpire, however, did not award the batter first base, and instead called a dead ball explaining that the batter did not make an effort to avoid the pitch. S-E pitcher Matt Crandall then recorded the third out to force an eighth inning.
S-E gained a one-run lead in the top of the ninth when Mick Khoury scored on a wild pitch.
Hamilton answered right back and scored the winner on Nick Fry’s single to right field. “Really, they were probably destined to win this game,” said S-E coach Brian Hicks. “The hit the heck of the ball, and they probably made seven or eight unbelievable plays with their gloves.”
Felix Rodriguez doubled twice and drove in one run to lead S-E, who had a three-game winning streak snapped. “It hurts (the loss) because there were some bragging rights at stake,” Hicks said, noting the local rivalry. “But it’s a non-league game and means nothing toward sectional points. We just have to jump on Waterville tomorrow.”
