Spratley wins Eastern Nationals wrestling title, four other Norwich wrestlers place

SALISBURY, Md. – Norwich’s junior wrestlers had five kids place among the top four, and crowned one champion at the Middle Atlantic Wrestling Association Eastern Nationals, held May 4-5 at Wicomico Civic Center in Salisbury, Maryland.

Troy Spratley, who is just a week shy of his 10th birthday, finished first in the 62-pound midget division pinning Meyer Shapiro of Maryland in the finals in 1:47. Spratley finished his wrestling season with a 75-3 mark, and now has 390 career victories.

Placing second in the 152-pound advanced division was Norwich sophomore Tristan Rifanburg. Rifanburg, a New York State runner-up this past year, dropped a decision to 2013 Maryland state champion Charlie Perella in the finals.
