MARATHON – Norwich’s golf team repeated as Section IV Class B champions Monday afternoon at Maple Hill Golf Club.

Led by overall medalist, junior Corey Johnson, Norwich improved 23 shots on last year’s winning score with a five-person score of 406, 16 strokes better than runner-up Windsor and nine better than Class C champion Chenango Forks.

“We had a mix of veterans with some young kids who really blossomed the late in the fall season,” said Norwich coach Bob Branham. “You could just see their confidence grow at the end of last season, and in the last three weeks of practice, I saw big improvements.”

Johnson had two birdies in his round, one highlighted by an even-par 35 on the back nine en route to a 3-over-par 73. Senior Ryan Hagen and eighth-grader Ryan Johnson each turned in 80s, junior Greg Todd fashioned an 85, and senior Casey Marson carded an 88.
