Sherburne’s 4th of July celebration drawing near

SHERBURNE – Now less than a month away, the Sherburne Lions Club is set to light the Chenango County village up with live music, baseball games, food and – not to mention – plenty of fireworks during Sherburne’s Fourth of July Celebration.

The Lions Club first began organizing the village’s Independence Day Celebration in 1994 and has hosted it ever since. As per tradition, the celebration will commence at 11 a.m. in Paddleford Park in Sherburne with a chicken barbecue. There will be no charge for attendance or parking.

“We started this on the village’s 175th celebration in 1993 and it was a huge event,” said organizer Ken VanWagner. “Ever since then, we have tried to match exactly what we did that year and will continue to do so.”

The event will be favored this year with exceptional entertainment, said VanWagner. Included in this year’s musical lineup will be the increasingly distinguished Tumbleweed Highway, and Katie Stewart, a Sherburne-Earlville student who recently won a local American Idol Competition hosted at the Park Place Restaurant and Lounge in Norwich. Nashville recording artist Cassidy Lynn – who will be releasing her first CD beforehand – will also return this year, along with the Smyrna Citizens Band (a local favorite) and the Bruce Beadle Trio.
