Elites beat Milford in opening game

EDMESTON – The ECO Elites, and 18-and-under local baseball team, topped Milford’s 17U team, 7-1, in the Elites’ season-opening game Wednesday night.
Pitchers Mike Clark and Nate Shackelton combined on a two-hitter for the Elites with Shackelton, a senior next year at Unadilla Valley, finishing with three scoreless frames.
Shackelton’s single in the opening inning scored Austin Lewis, and Shackelton scored on Austin Taylor’s RBI single.
Holding a one-run lead, the Elites struck for five runs in the bottom of the fifth. Richard Ryan (Oxford) hit a two-run single scoring Lewis and Paul Van Warner. Shackelton also scored on the hit following a Milford throwing error. Ryan scored on an error, and Austin Brown’s RBI single completed the uprising.
Clark and Shackelton each had seven strikeouts in the win, and were helped by a pair of double plays.
