S-E fourth grade teacher remains in serious condition following van versus truck accident Wednesday
SMITHFIELD – The driver of a 2007 Chevrolet Van, owned by the Sherburne-Earlville School District, remains in serious condition as of Thursday morning following a two-car accident that occurred early Wednesday morning in Madison County.
According to New York State Police stationed in Oneida, nine individuals – including six teachers from the Sherburne-Earlville school district – were injured in the accident which occurred at approximately 7:25 a.m. at the intersection of Swamp Road and Fearon Road in the Town of Smithfield.
State police say that the S-E owned van was traveling westbound on Fearon Road when the driver failed to yield the right of way to a Department of Transportation dump truck traveling north on Swamp road. The DOT Truck subsequently struck the van on the diver’s side with sufficient force to cause both of the vehicles to leave the road via the west side shoulder, at which point both cars overturned in a field.
