Body identified as that of missing Norwich woman

NORWICH – The body discovered Wednesday morning along the railroad tracks near the Norwich Wal-Mart has been positively identified as that of the missing Krista Kosowsky, 51, of 69 Rexford Street in Norwich.
An autopsy was conducted by Dr. James Terzian at the Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton which did not reveal any trauma or injuries. A cause of death is still pending a toxicology report.
Kosowsky was first reported missing June 28 after she failed to arrive at work that afternoon in Clinton. It had been speculated that her disappearance was in some way linked to the torrential downpour and flooding which had shut down many of the roads along her usual route to work that day. Police had therefore conducted their search accordingly, scouring roadways in Chenango, Madison, and Oneida Counties for any sign of a car leaving the road. However, when Kosowsky’s 2007 gold Pontiac Grand Prix was discovered three days later in the parking lot of the Norwich Wal-Mart, in the opposite direction of her assumed destination, authorities shifted their search.
Hampered by continual rainfall and rising water levels from the nearby Chenango River, Norwich Police and New York State Troopers conducted a ground search of the region while New York State Forest Rangers piloted an air boat through the adjacent waterways in search of any trace of the missing woman. Then, at approximately 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, as the Chenango River finally began to recede, a team of three Norwich Police officers assisted by a Norwich Police canine located a deceased female in the water adjacent to the railroad right-of-way south of the City of Norwich Waste Water Treatment Plant and upriver from the Wal-Mart parking lot.
New York State Police divers subsequently recovered the body, which was later identified as that of the missing Kosowsky.
