Garden Clubs of Chenango County to hold public meeting

NORWICH – The Garden Clubs of Chenango County will hold a public meeting at 6:30 p.m., July 10, at the Broad Street Methodist Church in Norwich. All those interested in flowers, houseplants, floral arrangements and the like are encouraged to attend as the meeting will offer tips and pointers to those wishing to enter this year’s Chenango County Fair Flower Show.
The Norwich, Greene, Oxford and Town and Country Garden Clubs are joining together to provide interested parties with information and suggestions to spruce up their entries for the annual show at the fair.
“Experts will give ideas for preparing one’s exhibit in the design section - explaining what the categories are - as well as how to prepare your flowers and plants for the horticulture division,” said committee member Jane Clement.
Said experts will include professional blue ribbon winners and event judges. The meeting will offer an opportunity for the interested public to gain insight from previous winners on a number of various floral topics.
According to Clement, the theme of the Flower Show this year is “Down on the Farm,” and there are a plethora of different design categories.
Interested in flowers but have no idea what a “niche” or a “vignette” is? Don’t know how you should lay out your “breakfast in bed” tray? Not to worry, the Garden Club members will be on-hand to help out with just about any question concerning related terminology and vocabulary, creativity and presentation.
Attendees of the meeting will also learn more about the official rules and entry information in regards to the Flower Show, to be held from August 6-11 at Floral Hall at the Chenango County Fairgrounds. Those interested in entering the Flower Show must submit their entry form prior to the event, and Wednesday’s meeting will be a prime opportunity for Chenango County residents learn about the entry process.
“How about your dahlias or your zinnias that everyone raves about ...” said Clement. “Bring them to the fair - you just may win a Blue Ribbon.”
Clement added that the meeting will be helpful for anyone wishing to cross off “win a Blue Ribbon at the county fair” from their bucket list. Tips will be given on how to “wow” the judges with the entries for this year’s show.
“It’s just like the lottery ... you can’t win if you don’t enter,” she said.
