Pair of weekend accidents leave one dead, one seriously injured

CHENANGO COUNTY – Two motor vehicle accidents took place over the weekend, one resulting in a serious injury while another ended with a fatality.
• At approximately 4:59 p.m., Friday, near the intersection of County Road 36 and County Road 37 in Guilford, a two car motor vehicle accident took place resulting in one fatality.
• A two vehicle head-on collision took place at 11:56 a.m., Saturday, near 7553 state Highway 12 and its intersection with Bryant Road, shutting down traffic for a spell. One individual was transported via LifeNet helicopter to UHS Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City with what emergency officials called a serious injury. Two other individuals were transported with injuries, one to Basset Healthcare in Norwich, the other to UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital.
• On July 4 at approximately 2:22 p.m., first responders utilized the county air boat to rescue two individuals from the Chenango River near state Highway 12B in Sherburne. The individuals had been stranded and were clinging to a tree in the river after their kayaks had overturned. Reportedly, the river was still running fast and high from recent rains which had swept through the region. – Kevin Doonan
