Six indicted by grand jury; seventh pleads guilty

NORWICH – A Norwich man pleaded guilty in Chenango County Court last week while six others were indicted by a grand jury on a number of felony and misdemeanor charges.

• Scott W. George, 41, Norwich, pleaded guilty to third degree assault and petit larceny, both class A misdemeanors. Sentencing was adjourned to a later date but – as per the stipulations of George’s plea bargain – he will be sentenced to two, one year sentences to run consecutively.

It had been alleged that on or about October 16, 2012, George did recklessly cause injury to a Norwich City Police Officer at 29 Court Street. It was also alleged that he had stolen money from another individual.

The Chenango County grand jury handed up a number of criminal indictments on Wednesday. At a grand jury proceeding, the Chenango County District Attorney’s Office presents evidence against those they wish to prosecute. It is up to the jury to decide if there is enough reasonable cause to charge a person with a felony offense.

Those indicted by the grand jury are arraigned before the county or Supreme Court judge at a later date.

• Jabal J. Rodriguez, 27, Smithville, was indicted on charges of first degree robbery, first degree assault, second degree robbery, and two counts of second degree assault.
