Folk singer Nan Hoffman returns to New Berlin

NEW BERLIN– “What I most enjoy about American folk music is its easy accessibility to all ages and its potential for bringing people together in song, story, humor and fun,” states Nan Hoffman, a folk musician who has toured throughout the United States and Canada for more than 30 years. Hoffman will be performing at 7 p.m. tonight at the New Berlin Library, 15 South Main Street.
The show is free of charge and the public is encouraged to attend her performance. Hoffman is not a stranger to playing at the New Berlin Library, as she performed as part of last year’s concert series too.
Hoffman has showcased her talents in coffeehouses, at festivals, schools, parks, camps, churches, community centers, hospitals, nursing homes and – as she will show tonight – libraries.
She is a singer, musician, recording artist and workshop presenter. While singing, she will accompany herself on the guitar, autoharp, and various other instruments.
Both contemporary and traditional folk songs are included in Hoffman’s repertoire, which also features ballads, spiritual tunes, topical and humorous songs. Her material invites audience participation and her shows have been deemed both fun and informative.
Her albums A Thousand Cranes, Rise Like a Star and Along the Road focus on ecological concerns, peace and human potential. Hoffman’s releases Ahead of the Game! and Special Request contain songs for children and individuals of all ages. (Almost) Two Much is comprised of songs from the two aforementioned CDs - 28 songs in total, which are said to be not just for children and have addictive choruses.
Tonight’s evening performance is geared toward the entire family, therefore parents are encouraged to bring their little ones to the library for the event.
Stated Hoffman, “Concerts and educational programs provide opportunities for both children and adults to develop an awareness and appreciation of folk music and to reaffirm our innate abilities as singers, dancers, players and storytellers. Just as folksongs of other times reflected the lives, happenings, and hopes of those people, today’s audiences can learn to use this form of expression to share their own experiences, opinions, and feelings without relying upon TV, radio, videos, the internet or superstars.”
