Leatherstocking District Pipe Band to play final summer series show at New Berlin Library

NEW BERLIN – The Leatherstocking District Pipe Band will offer up the final performance of the Ruso and Jean Perkins Memorial Concert series, the show slated to begin at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the New Berlin Library, 15 South Main Street.

Harpist Martha Gallagher, classical guitarist Peter Fletcher and folk musician Nan Hoffman have all brought their talents to the library in previous weeks, and hopes are high the final show will have a solid turnout.

The Leatherstocking District Pipe Band (LDPB) is a Grade 5 pipe band based out of Oneonta. A Grade 5 band participates in various Eastern United States Pipe Band Association competitions and local community events. The LDPB performs at parades, school functions, and private events.

The pipe major is Stephan Scanlan-Yerly, an Illinois native who has been bagpiping since he was twelve years old. He attended Monmouth College on a full tuition scholarship for bagpiping. Scanlan-Yerly later played with the City of Washington Pipe Band in Washington, DC., before relocating to Oneonta in 2010.
