Sheriff’s deputies make second crystal meth related arrest in less than a month

McDONOUGH – For the second time in less than a month, a Chenango County resident has been charged with third degree unlawful manufacturing of methamphetamine. Tuesday, the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Greene resident in the Town of McDonough for allegedly cooking and possessing methamphetamine.

Kimberly N. Haughton, 28, of Greene, was charged with third degree unlawful manufacturing of methamphetamine, a class D felony; criminal possession of precursors of methamphetamine, a class E felony; and seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor. She was arraigned in the Town of McDonough Court and released on her own recognizance to re-appear in the Town of McDonough Court at a later date.

Haughton’s arrest followed an examination of her vehicle after it was confiscated by authorities on August 1 following a shooting in McDonough. Although the sheriff’s office does not believe Haughton was involved in an active cook, evidence technicians found precursors, solvents, and chemical reagents used in the manufacturing of methamphetamine within her car as well as finished methamphetamine products. The technician’s findings allegedly indicate either the recent completion of a cook, or the preparations to perform one.
