Sheriff’s deputies make second crystal meth related arrest in less than a month
McDONOUGH – For the second time in less than a month, a Chenango County resident has been charged with third degree unlawful manufacturing of methamphetamine. Tuesday, the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Greene resident in the Town of McDonough for allegedly cooking and possessing methamphetamine.
Kimberly N. Haughton, 28, of Greene, was charged with third degree unlawful manufacturing of methamphetamine, a class D felony; criminal possession of precursors of methamphetamine, a class E felony; and seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor. She was arraigned in the Town of McDonough Court and released on her own recognizance to re-appear in the Town of McDonough Court at a later date.
Haughton’s arrest followed an examination of her vehicle after it was confiscated by authorities on August 1 following a shooting in McDonough. Although the sheriff’s office does not believe Haughton was involved in an active cook, evidence technicians found precursors, solvents, and chemical reagents used in the manufacturing of methamphetamine within her car as well as finished methamphetamine products. The technician’s findings allegedly indicate either the recent completion of a cook, or the preparations to perform one.
On August 1, Haughton was charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. The charge followed a Chenango County Sheriff’s Office investigation into a reported shooting at 309 county Route 7 in the Town of McDonough. No one was injured during the shooting, however three people were arrested, including Haughton, after she was allegedly found to be in possession of approximately three grams of methamphetamine contained within her pocket book.
On the previous day, July 31, in an unrelated incident, the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office, partnered with the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police, conducted a “no knock” search at a county Road 12 residence and the adjacent garage in the Town of Pitcher. Following a search of the two buildings a Pitcher resident was arrested for allegedly utilizing the “one-pot” method to produce methamphetamine and was charged with third degree unlawful manufacturing of methamphetamine, unlawful disposal of methamphetamine laboratory material, a class E felony; second degree criminal possession of methamphetamine manufacturing material, a class A misdemeanor; criminal possession of precursors of methamphetamine, seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession a hypodermic instrument, both class A misdemeanors.
