Greene's Carlin reaches victory milestone

DEPOSIT - Greene field hockey coach Sue Carlin reached a historic victory milestone in the Trojans’ shutout win over Deposit Saturday.
Carlin’s last win of the 2012 season – a Class C title win – gave her 399 career victories in stints with Maine-Endwell and Greene. With yesterday’s victory, Carlin is among the select few to ever reach the 400-win mark. “I’ve just had some great kids, great families, and great assistant coaches over the years,” Carlin said after the win. “I have great kids again this year, and I’m glad this group did it.”
Senior Katherine Klecha figured in all three goals, each coming in the opening half. Klecha had one goal and two assists. Tiffany Borst added one goal, and Kristy Haskell added the third.
Greene hosts Windsor on Tuesday.

OXFORD - Greene’s offense got on track in the second half led by all-time leading scorer Paige Wilcox.
Wilcox had two goals and one assist – all in the second 40 minutes. Wilcox broke a scoreless tie with 26:40 left in the game when a quick clear from the Greene defensive zone set up a breakaway for Wilcox. Darien Meagley also scored for Greene. “I was really happy with our play, and Lorrin Parks marked Paige throughout the game,” said Oxford coach Kathleen Cragle. “The rest of the team also did a nice job of double-teaming Paige. I also felt we did a better job moving the ball.”
Oxford plays at B-G next Wednesday.

Sherburne-Earlville 4, Morrisville-Eaton 1
MORRISVILLE – Sherburne-Earlville won for the second time this season as sophomore Savannah Irwin recorded her first hat trick Wednesday.
Irwin scored the game’s first two goals getting an assist from Jordan Van Althuis on the first, and tacking on the second during a loose-ball scramble in front of the M-E net.
After M-E closed to within one goal scoring 23 seconds before halftime, Irwin completed her hat trick 18 minutes into the second half. Sarah Cole added an insurance goal, and Van Althuis finished with three assists.

Boys’ Soccer

Otselic Valley 4, Madison 3 (OT)
SOUTH OTSELIC – Otselic Valley scored the tying goal with 5.8 seconds left in regulation, and beat Madison with late second-overtime goal to win its season-opening game Wednesday.
Connor Smith’s through ball to Jason Olin led to the tying goal – Olin’s third tally of the game – to force overtime. Austin Reynolds made a fine individual play beating multiple Madison defenders to tally the game-winner. “This was a game I will never forget,” said OV coach Jacob Preston. “We pushed hard after falling behind and had numerous opportunities, but could not finish until Jason’s late goal. Over the last 40 minutes, our defense made a change. We communicated better and marked tighter to keep us in the game. Overall, Madison outplayed us, but our drive to never give up gave us a chance to win, which we capitalized on.”
Olin had the lone OV goal in the first half getting a feed from Matthew Neal, and Neal also set up Olin’s second goal that gave OV a 2-1 lead early in the second half.

Bainbridge-Guilford 3, Deposit 0
BAINBRIDGE – Morgan Bullis had 10 kills and seven assists, and Rebecca Reyes handed out eight assists in the Bobcats’ three-game sweep of Deposit Wednesday, 25-13, 25-20, 25-22.
Alissa Rivera added five kills, and Kerstin Towndrow had a team high four digs.
Kyley Vandermark finished with four aces for Deposit.

Unadilla Valley 3, Unatego 2
NEW BERLIN – Unadilla Valley dropped the first two games before rallying to defeat Unatego in five games Wednesday, 21-25, 15-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-18.
Megan Gould had nine aces for UV, Haley Benson and Shannon McIntyre added eight aces apiece, and Nicole Mackey picked up 14 assists.
It was Benson’s serving early in the third game that turned the tide of the match, said UV coach Jean Tyler. “Haley nailed three serves in a row that I don’t think anyone could have returned,” Tyler said. “That really got us going, and it was our game from that point.”

GREENE – Greene evened its mark at 1-1 on the season edging Oxford in five games Wednesday, 22-25, 25-16, 19-25, 25-21, 25-23.
Kayli Dickinson had eight aces and 10 assists for Greene, and Mary Messina led at the net with seven kills.
Taylor Chapman served 11 aces for Oxford (0-2).
