Greene, Sherburne-Earlville win by shutout

Greene 37, Bainbridge-Guilford 0
BAINBRIDGE – Greene’s offense rolled over the B-G defense at will, and its defense allowed virtually nothing in a shutout win over the Bobcats Friday night.
The Trojans ran for 318 yards, and combined with quarterback Joe Beckwith’s passing, accumulated nearly 400 yards of total offense. On the Bobcats’ side, the home club had negative total yards in the first half, only two first downs for the game, and crossed the 50-yard line into Greene territory just once, and that was a result of a Trojans turnover.
“They were just that much better than us, and I was pretty impressed with them,” said B-G coach Tim Mattingly of the Trojans. “They controlled the line of scrimmage, and pretty much did what they wanted offensively.”
Five different Greene backs had rushing touchdowns. Senior Joel Roselle had a team-high 94 yards rushing and and first-quarter 11-yard TD blast, freshman Luke Erickson initiated the winner’s scoring with a seven-yard TD jaunt, while Cole Nelson, Tyler Dickman, and Zach Orzell tacked on rushing scorers.
First-year varsity kicker Wyatt Johns added a 32-yard field goal to complete the Trojans’ all-around performance. “Greene has pretty good experience at quarterback and running back, the receivers were good, and the defense was solid,” Mattingly said. “Greene will hold its own in Class C this year.”
The Bobcats face Groton this coming weekend.

Sherburne-Earlville 60, Little Falls 0
SHERBURNE – Coming off its biggest blowout victory since joining Section III 11 seasons ago, Sherburne-Earlville will not sneak up on anyone this season. “We wanted to make a statement in this game, and we certainly did,” said S-E coach Mike Jasper after Saturday night’s win over Little Falls.
Marauders quarterback Cody Marango threw four TD passes, first-year varsity running back Brodie Roebuck had three second-half TD runs, and the Marauders controlled every phase of the game in Saturday’s rout of Little Falls.
“We really dominated both sides of the line of scrimmage,” said S-E coach Mike Jasper.
Yes, Jasper said, the Marauders were that good, and Little Falls – who carries a large roster – was not as bad as the score indicates. “We were pretty much able to establish what we wanted to do,” Jasper said. “We got a good push at the line of scrimmage, and our backs - Brady Sopchak and Brody Roebuck – showed that we did have some speed.”
Austin Jasper had three scores as well running for his team’s opening TD of the game. Marango followed that up with TD passes to Gavin Giroux and Ben Khoury. Late in the half, Marango found Jasper in the end zone as Jasper made a leaping catch to raise the advantage to 32-0 at the break. Earlier in the second quarter, Brady Sopchak scored on an eight-yard TD run.
Sopchak finished with 137 yards rushing, Roebuck had 101, and Marango was a perfect 5-for-5 for 106 yards. The Marauders finished with 473 yards of total offense averaging better than 10 yards per play.

Dryden 32, Oxford 14
DRYDEN – Dryden used the big play to pull away from Oxford in the second half Friday night to pull away for the non-league victory.
A 6-0 game at the break, Oxford squandered a pair of scoring opportunities deep in Dryden’s zone with untimely penalties. “Those are the type of things that can break your back,” said Oxford coach Ray Dayton. “The score really doesn’t indicate the closeness of the game. They didn’t drive it on us, it was just the big plays. We made young mistakes, but what’s encouraging is that our mistakes are ones we can shore up in practice. I usually am down after a loss, but we have a good group, and the best thing is that they played every down snap to whistle. We showed great effort, and that can be the toughest thing to coach.”
Oxford piled up plenty of yardage running and passing the ball, and had a pair of second-half rushing scores. Sophomore Nick Neer and senior Nik Hansen had scoring runs to account for the Blackhawks’ scoring.
Oxford plays Walton this week.
