SHERBURNE – Central Valley Academy scored the first goal just 20 seconds after the opening kickoff in a shutout victory over the Marauders Wednesday.
Teigha Ward had the initial goal for CVA, and Rachael Phillips followed up with a tally just five minutes later.
CVA earned the victory despite the host Marauders holding a 12-7 advantage in shots on goal.

Boys' Soccer

Brookfield 3, Otselic Valley 0
SOUTH OTSELIC – Brookfield scored all three of its goals after halftime in recording its second shutout victory over Otselic Valley this season.
Kevin Abrams scored on a free kick just two minutes into the second half, and Jake Cowen scored the next two for the Beavers, the latter on a penalty kick. "It was a tale of two halves," said OV coach Jacob Preston. "We had two or three good scoring opportunities in the first half, and we did not capitalize. After their first goal, it deflated us and we could not get it going after that."
OV (3-5, 5-6) hosts DeRuyter today.

Delhi 4, Afton 2
AFTON - Delhi captured a competitive battle with Afton Wednesday as Mitch Reed finished with a hat trick to lead the Bulldogs.
Conor Graven-Briggs scored both Afton goals, and his first tally cut Delhi's lead to 2-1. Just a few minutes later, Reed scored his second tally to create a two-goal cushion at halftime.
"We poured it all out on the field tonight, we just fell a little short," said Afton coach Todd Dancesia.
Afton hosts Bainbridge-Guilford Friday.

Cross Country

S-E runs at Colgate University
HAMILTON - In a five-way meet Wednesday, Sherburne-Earlville's boys picked up victories over incomplete squads from Old Forge and Waterville, and narrowly lost to Mount Markham.
Ian Benedict set the pace for S-E placing fifth out of 30 runners over the 4,200-meter layout. Benedict timed a 16:23, one of several good performances on the day, said head coach Anne Geary. "We've incorporated some different things into our training sessions, and I think they have paid off," Geary said.
Ryan Palmiter was next for S-E timing 17:36 to place tenth.
Abby Ryan led the Marauders girls clocking 27:11.
S-E is idle until the Center State Conference league meet on Oct. 19 at Poland High School.

NEW BERLIN – Unadilla Valley's volleyball overcame a first-game loss to defeat Deposit in four games Wednesday.
Haley Benson had seven aces and seven kills for the Storm (9-4), and Nicole Mackey led all setters with 13 assists. UV plays at Unatego today.
