NORWICH - The Chenango SPCA will hold its annual Woofstock from 1–5 p.m. on Nov. 24 at the Blarney Stone Pub, 26 S. Broad St., Norwich. For the past five years on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, the local nonprofit has held the event to support the Town of Norwich shelter.
The fund raising event, which began as a campaign to aid the shelter in response to two major animal cruelty cases in 2008, has grown in recent years and now aims both to promote awareness of services offered at the CSPCA and collect donations.
In addition to live music and food, guests can also learn about the CSPCA's spay and neuter program, collect brochures and ask CSPCA staff questions regarding adoption and strays.
Music for this year's Woofstock will be contributed by local favorites Tumbleweed Highway, Mike Davis, as well as the yearly offerings from The Suspicious Hats, who have participated since it's inception. New local reggae band We the People will also take to the stage.
The Blarney Stone Pub has donated its venue to the event and in addition, all tips and proceeds collected will be awarded to the Shelter.
Courtney Sullivan, CSPCA board of directors president, commented, “The CSPCA is very thankful to those who contribute to the continued success of Woofstock ... We look foward to meeting the public and answering any questions people may have.”
Said Sullivan, “The bottom line is that it takes a village to keep the shelter open to serve the county’s animals.”
Founded in 1907, Chenango SPCA is a nationally recognized, open-admission animal shelter that provides care for lost and homeless pets, adopts pets to new homes, and educates families and the community about the needs of companion animals.
CSPCA serves primarily the residents and animals of Chenango County and the surrounding communities. The mission of the Chenango SPCA is to provide and promote care, compassion and respect for the animals and the community.
“The Shelter usually generates between $1,200 and $2,000 in donations from this one event, and that’s a substantial amount of funding that not only directly benefits animals in need, but also the community and local municipalities,” Sullivan added.
As always, Woofstock is open for the public to attend. While organizers appreciate the enthusiasm of the community, the public is urged to leave their pets at home for the event.
Donations will be graciously accepted and tee shirts will be available for purchase, as well as a pre-order sale of hooded sweatshirts, which is sponsored by Mirabito Fuel.
