Fenton MVA claims two Norwich residents
FENTON – Two Norwich residents are dead following a fatal two car collision in the Town of Fenton at approximately 8 p.m. On Friday, Nov. 3.
Investigators of the Broome County Shreiff's Dept. have identified the victims as Kristen L. Crandall, 17, and Corey S. Jones, 37, both of Elm Street in Norwich, according to a press release from the Sheriff's Office.
The report indicates that Kelly A. Crandall, 37, also of Elm Street in Norwich, was seriously injured in the crash and is believed to be the mother of Kristen Crandall. The driver of the Acura – Anthony N. Stroman, 20, of Moeller Street, Binghamton – also sustained serious injuries.
Both survivors were taken to UHS Wilson Memorial Hospital and are currently listed in critical condition, according to the hospital officials.
The exact cause of death of the deceased is unknown at this time and is pending an autopsy examination, to be conducted at a later date.
The accident occurred approximately one-half mile north of Fenner Hill Road. Police say a 2000 Acura Integra operated by Stroman was traveling southbound when it swerved into the northbound lane of traffic and struck a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by John P. Potter, head-on.
According to Police, Potter, 48, of Ganoungtown Road in Port Crane, was traveling alone and was not injured or ticketed following the incident.
Two helicopters were dispatched to the scene shortly after emergency crews arrived, according to Broome County EMS records.
State Route 369 was closed for several hours following the accident to allow investigators and accident re-constructionists to determine the cause.
The accident is still under investigation, and the release indicates that a third vehicle may have been involved in the crash, but reportedly left the scene prior to the arrival of emergency personnel.
"The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is currently and actively looking for an older brown-colored Buick sedan with new style blue and gold colored license plates," the release states.
Police are asking anyone in the Port Crane area and who may have seen an older brown-colored Buick around the time of the accident or any other information regarding this accident investigation to contact investigating officer Detective Ed Sakowsky at 778-2054.
