A new store with a new location offers locals ‘something else’
NORWICH – Somethin’ Else on 6142 State HWY 12 in Norwich – a store that has been around just two short months – is moving into a larger space a few doors down from its current location in the North Plaza within the next two weeks. Somethin’ Else is a specialty store with a variety of items from jewelry to refrigerators. The most unique items in the store are new and used designer clothes and accessories including Coach, Chanel, Prada and Tiffany & Co.
Store owner Adelia Mullins is a highly educated Norwich native. She has a masters in human development and criminal justice and is currently earning her Phd. in psychology of counseling. She has a passion for helping people and cares about her community.
When she is not collecting degrees, she collects good deals. Her desire to help people, love for shopping and knack for getting a good deal is what led her to opening her own store. “I could not find a job that allowed me to use utilize my education and make a good living at the same time. I decided to make my own career. Opening up my own store is something I always wanted to do,” said Mullins.
“Everyone wants a good deal. I wanted people to be able to buy nice things like designer bags at a low price. I only buy the best quality and get the best deal,” said Mullins. She is proud to announce that she will soon be offering Nike shoes and apparel for men and women at a reasonable price.
Said Mullens, “Most of the items in my store are anywhere from $2 to $5. I even have name brand men’s suits for as little as $4.”
Mullins is able to offer such good deals because she travels and looks for items she thinks the community would find valuable. “I decided against consignment, because there are too many complications, and I would not have the freedom to mark things down at my own discretion. Because I buy all of my items, I am able to offer them at the price of my choice. I am not the kind of person to overcharge and mark stuff up,” said Mullins. Her philosophy is that if she offers people good deals – they will “keep coming back.” She passes along her good deals to her customers.
As for quality, Mullins said she never buys anything with stains, tears or obvious damage. Everything in her store is either new or in good condition. She knows where the items in her store come from and whether or not they are worth buying. “I wash all the clothes and make sure they look and smell clean. My clothes and accessories are ‘like new,” said Mullins.
Mullins does not stop at dressing men and women in designer clothing. She also sells other speciality items in “like new” condition including baby clothes, toys, DVDs, sports equipment, housing decorations, furniture, and appliances. “I had bought so much good stuff at a good deal that I did not have anywhere to put it. That is why I decided to move into a bigger space” said Mullins.
Somethin’ Else’s new location has higher ceilings, open space, two bathrooms, two dressing rooms, an office and kitchen in the back. “People will be able to try on clothes, and I will be able to offer more furniture because I now have room for a furniture section in my store,” said Mullins. She hopes the extra space will also allow her to buy more good stuff at a good price so she can sell it to the community. “I hope more people know I exist and that I have stuff for everyone, not just women. I am here to give the public good deals,” said Mullins. She welcomes everyone to come to her new location and find “something else” at a good price.
