OXFORD – Local music venue 6 On the Square will come alive Saturday, Nov. 24 starting at 7:30 p.m. with the unique voice, guitar and piano of nationally acclaimed folk artist Ellis Paul.
"Ellis has a voice that is so powerful that you know who it is the second he comes through your radio. His music and songs are a new birth in American sound that makes me want to go see concerts again," said Kristian Bush of the pop-country band Sugarland in a statement.
Ellis Paul is a fiercely independent and critically acclaimed musician who has traveled tirelessly to promote his music and his vision of what it means to be a true “Working Musician.”
The recipient of 14 Boston Music Awards, Paul blurs the lines between pop and folk on a regular basis and has entertained crowds across America with his vivid imagery and adept musicianship. Paul has honed his craft by performing more than 150 shows annually for the past 20 years and continues to take to stages large and small from the likes of The Rock N Roll Hall of Fame to Carnegie Hall and small clubs, festivals and coffeehouses.
Paul is currently on tour to promote his next studio album, which is nearing completion and expected to be released in early 2014. The album, which is being produced by Kristian Bush of the Nashville duo Sugarland, is an example of the new business model of performing musicians.
The project is being completely funded by fans of Paul, and to date the nearly 600 donors to the cause have raised more than $100,000.
This album will mark Paul's 17th studio album through the Black Wolf record label, which he co-founded in 1994 while emerging from the Boston music scene.
Before the feature album’s arrival, Paul will be releasing a holiday album dubbed “City of Silver Dreams,” which features nine original holiday tracks; some of which were co-written by Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush of the Grammy Award-winning duo Sugarland. The holiday album was given to donors ahead of it's commercial release as an incentive to support the new album, still in the production phases.
