First storm of the season sweeps Chenango

The winter weather advisory for Chenango County was canceled shortly after 11 a.m. According to the National Weather Service, periods of light rain will change to light snow this afternoon, resulting in accumulations of nearly an inch.</em>

CHENANGO COUNTY – Emergency responders were on high alert Tuesday as the first major snow storm of the season swept across the region.

Though starting as mix of snow and sleet, weather patterns gradually changed to rain overnight, resulting in inches of dangerously wet and sludgy conditions on the roadways for the Wednesday commute. Unsafe driving conditions resulted in a number of minor accidents across the county throughout the day on Tuesday, the worst being be during heavier traffic hours between 2 and 7 p.m. Of the nine accidents reported by the Chenango Dispatch Center, only two were reported with personal injury.
