Aim 2 Lose

NORWICH - Aim Fitness in the Town of Norwich is spearheading a program geared toward helping individuals lose weight, maintain the loss and gain the knowledge of how to lead a healthier lifestyle.
The “Aim 2 Lose” program is somewhat similar to what was referred to as the “biggest weight loser;” yet this program, that begins today, focuses more on keeping the weight off, discipline changes, and commitment.
“For people who want to commit to fitness for the first time, or for people who are recommitting after being away from it, Aim 2 Lose is a great starting point,” said trainer Mike McGuire.
This is a 12-week program, with an additional 4-week commitment on the participants' own schedule.
Those who opt to participate will receive 24 group trainings, a t-shirt, nutritional guidelines, and email support. The fee is $249.99. Those who are not current Aim Fitness members are required to purchase a four month membership in addition.
Team sizes range from four to eight individuals.
Logistics require participants must be present in the gym for training at least five days per week. This involves two group training sessions with one of the four trainers, and three additional days of classes.
“We are committed to the results of the clients rather than the competitor aspect,” said trainer Josh Ammons.
Keeping a journal is an additional requirement of the program. Those involved must maintain a paper or online record of everything eaten that is to be handed in weekly.
Aim 2 Lose runs from Jan. 6 through March 31. The final weigh-in is slated to take place on April 28.
The weekly weigh-ins and monthly measurements that take place are kept confidential, and both group and individual photos are taken at the beginning and the end of the program.
Penalties are in place for missed classes or failing to hand in food logs.
While the rules may seem strict to some, there are incentives that aim to make the entire process worth it.
The way to become the overall Aim 2 Lose winner lies in the four weeks following the regular 12 weeks of training. This training is done on the participants' own time and schedule, and the reasoning behind it is to measure what the individual learned regarding weight loss and lifestyle changes.
For those who do not gain any weight back during the four week post-regular training, there will be a $50 Aim Fitness credit awarded.
A weekly incentive is in place for the most weight lost for each male and female, and those individuals will receive a goodie bag. The monthly incentive relates to the biggest measurable change, and that too is awarded to the top male and female participants.
At the final weigh-in, the team with the most overall weight loss will earn a one-month membership, and the team with the most inches lost earns a one-month membership.
The overall biggest Aim 2 Lose male and female participants will win a one-year membership to Aim Fitness for free.
“Our goal is to help people stop seeing fitness, and working out, as a chore,” said McGuire. “With the right approach and some willingness, it can be such a positive long-term aspect of people’s lives. We want to help people find that approach.”
According to McGuire, the key points of the program are to familiarize participants with exercise in general, the proper function and use of machines in the facility, and various methods, theories, and basic nutrition.
