Crawford named SUNYAC Player of the Week
ONEONTA – The State University of New York Athletic Conference has selected SUNY Oneonta senior, Alyshia Crawford (Oxford/Oxford Academy), as its women's basketball Player of the Week. Crawford led the Red Dragons to a pair of victories on its recent trip to Puerto Rico.
The Red Dragons defeated Salisbury State University and Mount Holyoke in the San Juan Shootout.
Crawford hit a three-pointer as time expired to lift Oneonta to a 54-53 victory over Salisbury in the opening game of the tournament. Down by two and with three seconds left, Oneonta had to inbound the ball under its own basket. Sophomore Lyteshia Price (Liverpool/Liverpool) threw a long pass, which was received by senior Kelly Mulligan (Pearl River/Pearl River) at the opposite three-point line. Mulligan then passed the ball to Crawford, who pump-faked and got the shot off with a defender on her. That game-winning basket capped an 18-point performance, to leader all scorers in the game.
In the second game of the trip versus Mount Holyoke, Crawford scored eight points and grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds, as the Red Dragons defeated the Lyons 64-43.
Crawford currently leads the 7-2 Red Dragons in scoring at 14.3 points per game. She also leads the team with 21 three-point baskets to go with 21 steals and 19 assists.
Last May, Crawford traveled as part of a USA All-Star squad that competed in Austria, Italy and the Czech Republic.
