Alishauskas, Lyons win scholar-athlete awards

VERONA – Two area athletes were honored Sunday, Jan. 26, at the 14th Annual Scholar Athlete Awards Dinner sponsored by the Central New York Chapter of The National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame, Inc. at the Turning Stone Resort in Verona.
Sherburne-Earlville senior Adam Alishauskas, son of Majel and John Alishauskas, and Cooperstown senior Lucas Lyons, son of Karen and William Lyons of South New Berlin, received a monetary scholarship, and will be listed in the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta, Georgia.
Alishauskas and Lyons were each named to the Center State Conference All-Star Team for Section III, and played in the 2013 John Arcaro Memorial Football Classic All-Star Football Game in November. Both athletes have been named to the Center State Conference area all-star team for the last two years; Alishauskas a first team offensive player, and Lyons to the first team offense and defense in 2013, and d first team defense and second team offense selection in 2012. Alishauskas and Lyons are also honor students and members of the National Honor Society.
Alishauskas plans to attend Paul Smith’s College in the fall, majoring in Environmental Science. Lyons is currently enrolled in the New Visions Health Care Program at Bassett Medical Center, and plans to pursue a career in the medical field after graduation. He is also a competitive dancer for Perkins School of the Arts in Norwich.
