SMITHVILLE – New York State Police are leading an investigation into a murder that occurred in the Town of Smithville on Monday.

According to authorities, 29-year-old Kyle V. Whitfield of Greene was arrested by State Police for murder in the second degree following an investigation into a physical altercation and the stabbing death of 33-year-old James G. Button, Jr of 305 Race Rd., Greene.

Police say the incident happened at approximately 3:20 p.m. at Whitfield’s residence at 132 Loomis Lane in the Town of Smithville.
