Warm water in, big fish out

The word on the ice is that everyone has had a pretty rough season. Lots of snow, super frigid conditions, and slow bites have had most ice fishermen wondering why they even bothered going out.

Ice fishing can be super hot some years, and not so good the next. There are many reasons or theories why this happens. I personally struggled through most of the hard-water fishing season. Lucky for us, the fish are going to turn on very soon. I have a few tricks up my sleeve that tend to fill a few late-season limits.

This winter has been a test of patience for nearly every ice fishermen that I have talked to. Furthermore, almost everybody said that they had heard the same dismal reports from all of their fishing buddies. This goes for lakes across the whole state. I've heard many theories, but have no true answer as to why it's been so slow. A lot of people are blaming the number of cold days had through this winter. Others blame low oxygen levels, making the fish lethargic. While a few think it was attributed to the ice not being safe early in the season. All of these factors can hinder ice fishing success. Many have asked me if this trend will carry through ice off.
