Chenango Valley had 20 hits and Norwich had four errors as the Warriors jumped all over the tornado in Wednesday nights opener. “They can hit, and hit hard,” said Norwich Head coach Scott Moore. the game started off well for Norwich. Cassidy Seary hit a triple in the first and the Tornado was up two to nothing. Chenango Valley scored at least one run in every inning, however and proved to be too much for Norwich this time.
Starting pitcher Norwich’s Shannon Moore pitched a complete game with five strikeouts and hit a solo homerun in the seventh inning. Moore was concerned with the number of errors he witnessed in the first game of the season.”there were first game jitters,” said Moore. Norwich was held scoreless for three straight innings by Chenango Valley pitcher Amber Wallach. “She threw six pitches and was out of the (third) inning,” said Moore.  After the loss Moore was preaching discipline and focus to his self proclaimed inexperienced softball team. “We got anxious to get something going. I told them that the focus needs to improve when your in the box. You have to have discipline, know you zone and take care of business, said Moore.
The game took place in Chenango Valley due to an unplayable field in Norwich. “The dirt was soft but the outfield was pretty good,” said Moore. Our field is still frozen in spots in left field so we need a week before we can get on our field and play,” said Moore.
