Body of missing man found

GREENE – New York State Police recovered the body of a missing Chenango County on Friday, May 2, from the Chenango River in the Town of Chenango.

Steven Moran, 57, of Greene, was first reported missing to State Police on December 11, 2013 and was last seen at his neighbor's residence on State Highway 12 in the Town of Greene on December 9, 2013.

The family of Steven Moran spent much of the day on Saturday, December 11 walking around the area surrounding his residence looking for the missing man. The family told authorities he was known to have suffered from bipolar disorder.

Initially, there had been conflicting reports as to where and when Moran was last seen, and some reports eluded Moran had been seen later in the day north of Smithville Flats on state Route 220, approximately ten miles from his home.

New York State Police would later confirm that he was last seen leaving a neighbor’s home near State Route 12 on Monday, Dec. 9 where it was assumed that he was walking back to his residence at approximately 3 p.m. that day after departing his neighbor's home.
