The McDonough Fire Department celebrated its volunteers with a special awards ceremony and banquet held on Saturday. Firefighter Rodney Preston received the Firefighter of the Year Award presented by Fire Chief Donald Granger. Preston also received the "50 Years of Service Award" and is still a top responder for the department. Paul Jackson received the Life Member Award presented by Granger. The award is given to department member that has shown dedication and commitment to the fire service. Volunteer department member Kenneth Sheldon, joined by his family, is presented the department's new $500 Community Service Award, named in his honor. Sheldon is a Life Member with more than 50 years at the McDonough Fire Department. He was presented the award by Barbara Anne Whitmore.
