Outgoing NCSD board member questions voters, voter turnout
NORWICH – Outgoing Norwich City School Board member Tom Morrone was given a congratulatory send-off at a regular meeting of the board on Thursday, but not without saying a few words about the 2014-2015 school budget which voters approved this week.
Despite being a district of nearly 8,000 people, Morrone said he was disappointed by voter turnout on Tuesday.
“Somehow, I don’t think we got enough coverage in the media,” he said, citing a total of only 441 votes that were tallied in the Norwich City School District, including the towns of Plymouth and Preston.
“Of those 441 who voted – and yes, we passed the school budget, we passed the bus budget, we passed everything that needed to pass – 110 of those people voted ‘no’ on the school budget,” Morrone said. “And that 110 people who voted ‘no’ bothers me most.”
