County adopts new parks agreement with City of Norwich
NORWICH – With the busiest season for East and West Parks in Norwich now in full swing, the Chenango County Board of Supervisors recently adopted an intermunicipal agreement with the City of Norwich for maintenance and activities in the parks.
While East and West parks are each owned by the county, a maintenance and activities agreement is made with the city to make best use of the parks throughout the year. The agreement continues a longstanding pact between the two entities that requires the city to maintain East Park while the county maintains West Park.
The five-year agreement also makes the Friends of the Parks Committee an advisory committee to the city and the county. Friends of the Park, as well as the city’s parks committee, will play a large role in what happens on park grounds including landscaping, tree removal, placement of signage and monuments, and park events. Recommendations will then go to the Chenango County Ag, Buildings and Grounds Committee; and although the county agrees to collaborate with the city, final decisions will ultimately be made by the county.
