First check mark in win column for NHS golf team

PLYMOUTH – Norwich sophomore Ryan Johnson, a fourth-year player on the Norwich golf team, shot a 1-over-par 36 over the back nine at Canasawacta Country Club to lead the Tornado to a 211-219 victory over visiting Owego Friday afternoon.

Johnson, a Section IV state team qualifier this past spring, had one birdie and two bogeys in his initial offering of the season.

“It was our first check mark in the win column,” said Norwich first-year head coach David Branham. “I hope the team is as excited about this win as I am.”

Norwich sophomore Joe Mioduszewski had five straight pars at one point to finish with a 42; Nate Scheer was next at 43, Alex Gage shot a 44, and seventh-grader Kai Scheer, playing his first varsity match, carded a 46.
