Feds give local dairy business a financial boost

NORWICH – A family-run dairy business in Norwich is receiving a nearly $50,000 federal grant to help boost consumer recognition of its products on grocery store shelves.

Evans Farmhouse Creamery in Norwich, a fourth generation dairy operation constructed of 20-30 mixed milking cows, is slated to receive $46,977 in federal grant funds. Funding was allocated through the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Value-Added Producer Grant program.

Evans Farmhouse plans to use the grant to promote the company’s name and products, giving it more name recognition to help compete with big brand names.

“This grant money will be used to promote our Evans line products,” said David Evans, the fourth generation owner of Evans Farmhouse Creamery. “Over the last number of years, we have not been able to promote the Evans brand and this will help us put the brand out there.”

Evans Farmhouse Creamery products include Greek yogurt as well as organic Greek yogurt. With increasing brand recognition, Evans said the company hopes to unveil raw milk chesses cheddars and other hard cheeses in the near future.
