Two arrested after toddler overdoses on unprescribed pills

COVENTRY – A Coventry couple was arrested on Monday and now face felony charges after a toddler reportedly overdosed on loose opiate pills.

According to New York State Police, 32-year-old Christopher L. Byrne and 23-year-old Casey M. Jones were subject of an investigation that started on Saturday, when a 20-month-old girl was treated for an overdose at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Binghamton and transferred for further treatment at SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse.

Police say the child has since been released from the hospital, and unprescribed pills are at the root of their investigation.

“No one in the family had a prescribed medication,” said Trooper Nathan Riegal, Public Information Officer for NYS Police Troop C.
