GREENE – A single goal was all Greene needed to capture its fifth annual tournament Saturday night against Sherburne-Earlville.
Luke Day ran onto Liam Allport's through ball, and Day was able to put away the one-on-one play with S-E keeper Keith Rose.
That was the lone instance in which the unbeaten Trojans solved Rose, who came away with 16 saves. "Rose had an outstanding game for them, and he made at least four incredible saves," said Greene coach Rick Tallman.
Greene advanced to the finals winning a hard-fought battle over Whitney Point, 2-1, Friday.
After a scoreless first half, Kevin Halsteter scored just 2:48 into the second half, and Scott Lord netted the eventual winning goal 12 minutes later.
"We struggled to produce a lot of quality shots in the first half, but we kept going, we focused in the second half, and I was impressed with that," Tallman said.
Sherburne-Earlville advanced to the finals winning a penalty kick shootout over G-MU. Both clubs failed to score through 80 minutes of regulation play and 20 minutes of overtime.
S-E won the shootout 4-3 with Max Britton converting the decisive penalty kick.
Whitney Point defeated G-MU 5-0 in the consolation game.

SOUTH OTSELIC – Otselic Valley scored three goals in the second half to pull away for a non-league victory over Oxford Friday.
Austin Reynolds had two second-half goals for the Vikings, the first one just moments into the second half.
Josh Behr had the lone OV goal in the first half.
"We struggled with communication and making passes in the first half," said OV coach Jake Preston. "In the second half, Jason Olin and Matt Neal came off the bench, and we made an instant improvement."
Olin was credited with two assists in the second half, and Neal added the Vikes' final tally.
The defense, led by Vikings keeper Coleman O'Hara, recorded its first shutout of the season.
The matchup was a reunion of two coaches, Preston of OV and Matt Dorman of Oxford, who played high school soccer together at Cincinnatus. "It was like bringing back the old days," Preston said.
OV (1-0) plays at McGraw today.

GREENE – Greene won its second straight game holding Harpursville to just one shot in Friday's shutout.
Jessica Kehoe moved up from her center back position to connect on the first goal after a penalty corner insert from Laura Durdon. Durdon added the second tally off a double assist from eighth-grader McKenna Sergi and Skylar Gilmore.
The Trojans were playing on grass for the first time this season, and showed improved passing skills. "It's a slower game (than playing on turf), but we did some good things that we haven't done yet, and that was a positive," said Greene coach Sue Carlin. "We were getting some deep passes behind the defense and trying to get that through ball."
Greene hosts Whitney Point Tuesday.

Morgan Bullis posted three aces, four assists, five kills, and one stuff block for B-G. Tierney Decker added a team-high six kills and Cadi Barber served four aces.
B-G was down two starters, one to injury and one to a rotary foreign exchange obligation. "We knew getting a win from Delhi was not going to be easy," said B-G coach Pam Tompkins. "The scores do not really show the fight that we had to execute in order to get the win. Delhi is making a comeback, and it won't be long before its a force to reckon with."

Emily Greenwood had eight aces and 10 kills, and Elyse Davis finished with 11 kills and eight aces to lead the Crimson Knights.
Oxford's Mariah Bullock totalled 11 service aces to go with three assists. Indaria Quintana and Samantha Mack paced the Blackhawks' defense with 11 digs apiece.

FENTON – Greene came up on the short side at Chenango Valley Friday, but saw marked improvement over its first meet.
"We had incredible time drops," said Greene coach Mike Platta. "All three of our relays were faster than our first meet, and the 400 free relay was 13 seconds faster. Even though the score doesn't indicate it, we're just focusing on the process of working toward sectionals."
Greene did grab a pair of victories. Nicole Flohr grabbed a win in the 100 backstroke, and the 200 free relay team of Julia Arboit, Audrey Platta, Taylor Wahlers, and Kailey Yanusas earned a victory.
Greene (0-2) hosts Chenango Forks Tuesday.

S-E runs at V-V-S Invitational
VERNON – Sherburne-Earlville was able to sample the site of the Section III meet scheduled later this season at the V-V-S Invitational Saturday.
Four varsity races were held with teams assembled in blocks of approximately 17 squads of all school sizes.
The Marauders’ boys edged out the host school to place 16th out of 17 schools in the 220-boy race. Ian Benedict was 45th overall to lead the Marauders clocking a 19:08 over the five-kilometer layout.
The Marauders girls also put together an excellent showing with nearly all of the runners improving on their earlier times. “We ran against some stiff competition, and most of the boys ran personal-best times,” said S-E coach Anne Geary. “That’s what a coach likes to see.”
