Norwich uses quick start to beat UV

Norwich 5, Unadilla Valley 2
NEW BERLIN – Norwich jumped out to a three-goal lead at halftime, and moved into second place in MAC division play with a victory at Unadilla Valley Tuesday night.
Killian Benedict scored for Norwich early on receiving a cross from Chris Trevisani. Pablo Rojas scored the first of his two goals to up the lead to two, and Sebastian Arango completed the trifecta.
"We're gaining confidence and playing better every game," said Norwich coach Scottie Decker.
UV had multiple scoring threats in the first half, but those opportunities were either turned away by Norwich keeper Keegan Prime, or a shot attempt was off the mark.
The Storm closed the gap in the second half behind two goals from Nate Barker, the latter on a breakaway.
With five minutes to play, UV earned a penalty kick with a chance to tie, but Prime came up big making the stop to preserve the Norwich advantage. On Prime's ensuing punt, he caught the Storm defense pushed up, and his long boot was received by Sean Phelan. Phelan gave Norwich some necessary cushion scoring his first goal of the season. "(Phelan's goal) was the pivotal moment of the game and really the knockout blow," said UV coach Ryan Houck. "Up until Prime's big play in the second half, we had the momentum our way and looked good. It's really hard to beat a team in 40 minutes when you've already spotted them three goals."
Rojas connected on the Tornado's fifth goal as time ticked down.

Oxford 4, Afton/Harpursville 1
AFTON –Oxford claimed its first win of the season Tuesday afternoon defeating winless Afton/Harpursville.
Ethan Monk scored within the first five minutes, and an own goal off an attempted misclear made it a two-goal lead. Mark Golden had the next two goals for Oxford.
Conor Graven-Briggs had the Knights' goal before halftime, the last ball to find the net.
"We controlled the ball quite a bit in the second half, but couldn't get the ball to bounce our way," said Knights coach Todd Dancesia.
Afton/Harpursville plays at Norwich Friday.

Adirondack 7, Sherburne-Earlville 1
BOONVILLE – Adirondack's Dawson Green and Kyle Swiecki combined for four goals and five assists in Tuesday's win over Sherburne-Earlville.
The Marauders led early scoring on a set piece. Max Britton fed Dmitri Sofranko, who netted his first goal of the season.
From there, Adirondack used its speed to take control. "Adirondack is usually a physical team, but we were surprised with how fast they were," said S-E coach Mike Rodriguez. "That gave us a lot of trouble."
The Marauders made the adjustment to that speed, but in the process of trying to score goals, gave up more tallies in the second half. "We possessed the ball better and built well, we just couldn't get through to the 18 and get the shots we wanted," Rodriguez said.
S-E plays Clinton on Thursday.
