COLUMBUS – Ninety-three years ago in the township of Columbus, NY through the dissolving of the memberships of the Congregational and Universalist Churches, the Columbus Community Church came into existence.

Soon after the church was organized, the ladies of the parish formed the Columbus Ladies Aid. Their first fundraising effort was a Harvest Dinner, and ninety-three years later this annual event continues in the hamlet.

Not your typical fundraising operation, the volunteer group that has been dedicated to the betterment of the Columbus heritage community for more than a century will roast more than 350 pounds of beef for the annual event. Likewise, 400 pounds of mashed potatoes, and more than 100 pies are solicited from members of the community for the event.

The buffet style affair was designed to have an “at home” atmosphere. Food is served on china plates, and the commercial dishwasher is kept steaming from morning until night to keep up.
