Norwich 3, Chenango Valley 2 (OT)
FENTON - A switch of positions midway through the season has paid off for Norwich.
Junior Michaela Fazio scored her fifth and sixth goals of the season, the latter coming with 30 seconds left in the second overtime giving the Tornado their second victory over Chenango Valley this season.
Chenango Valley's goalie mishandled a ball in the penalty area, and sophomore Gabby Mirabito poked the ball loose to Fazio for the winner. Until the midway point of the season, Fazio had served as a defender for head coach Adam Sprague. "Michaela gives us a formidable defense, but with her on the offensive end, I think it gives our team more balance," Sprague said.
Norwich raced to a two-goal lead with Alyssa Welch connecting 10 minutes into the game, and Fazio scored just three minutes later.
CV rallied behind goals from Alaina Carman and Dani Forbidussi.
"It was looking like a victory might slip through our fingers, but we literally worked hard until the last play, and I'm very proud of our team and its effort," Sprague said.
Norwich (4-7-1) hosts powerhouse Chenango Forks Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Class B Tournament
OWEGO - For the first time in five years, Norwich will not have a doubles team in the Class B finals.
The Tornado's top doubles team, Makenzie Maynard and Caroline Stewart, lost in the semifinals to Seton Catholic Central's top doubles team, Alina Gaylon and Claire Loughlin, 7-6 (9-7), 6-3.
Gaylon and Loughlin turned away four Norwich set points in the opening set rallying for that victory. "We put a lot into winning that first set," said Norwich coach John Stewart, who added that his team wasn't able to summon the same intensity in the second set as it had in the first.
Taylor Stroh beat Chenango Valley's number one singles player, Laura Levonne, to advance out of the first round before losing to Windsor's Julie Nemcek in the quarterfinals.
Losing their first-round matches were Steph Elder at singles, and the doubles team of Sam Gage-Cohley Acenowr.
Stewart said Norwich will finish among the top four teams in scoring. Maynard and Stewart return to Owego today at 3:30 p.m. for the third-place match against Seton Catholic's Lauren Miller and Ava McCann. The winner of that match earns a spot in the Section IV State Qualifier.
