NORWICH – A 16-year-old Norwich youth was arrested Thursday for walking to the police department wearing a mask and wielding a knife at police officers.
Norwich Police say the youth brandished a knife and showed a hammer at three police officers from the sidewalk outside the police station on East Main Street shortly after 8:30 p.m. According to a police report, the suspect refused to put down the knife.
Police secured the suspect and he was arraigned in front of the Norwich City Court on charges of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, menacing in the second degree, and loitering. He was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $10,000 bail and is to reappear in Norwich City Court on Oct. 14.
