Cyclones football sweep V-V-S at Colgate University
HAMILTON – The Norwich Cyclones swept the V-V-S Red Devils at Colgate’s Andy Kerr Stadium Sunday.
The B team started quickly rolling to a 35-12 victory.
Andrew Mullen recovered a V-V-S fumble in the B team game’s first play from scrimmage. The contest was just 34 seconds old when Elijah Rodriguez raced 61 yards to paydirt and then kicked a two-point conversion to make it 8-0.
Cameron Byrne added a 1-yard touchdown run, and Ben McGillicuddy added a two-yard touchdown plunge. Rodriguez added a brilliant 85-yard interception return for yet another Cyclones TD. Rodriguez added to the scoring following one TD with a two-point kick, while Seth Wessels added the P.A.T. on another TD as Norwich built a 29-0 halftime lead.
Nick Glanville added a 16-yard touchdown run in the third quarter complete the Cyclones scoring.
Byrne, and Ayden-John Lorimer both had interceptions. Michael Squires, Carson Maynard, Mullen, Tyler Rice, James Jones, Jared Houck, Jonathan Matlack-Grey stepped up on defense.
The Cyclones “C” team came away with a 21-0 victory over rival V-V--S.
Griffin Mills reached the endzone on a two-yard touchdown run with 19 seconds remaining in the half. A Torin Lawrence pass to Blaine Orlando was good for the point-after and a 7-0 halftime lead.
Mills added a 10-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, and kicked the two-point conversion. Kyle Pounds added a two-yard run in the fourth for the Cyclones win.
The Cyclones Blue offensive line of Bryant Switzer, Joey Marvin, Damien Kane, Jaden Jenkins, Nicholas Burchill, Tim Duke, and Gabe Blenis led a dominant game over the Red Devils. Mills, Duke, Matlack-Grey, Lawrence, Mason Edwards and Kane led a strong Cyclones defense. Mills and Lawrence had interceptions, and Joey Marvin recovered an onside kick.
The Cyclones “D” team overpowered the Red Devils in another outstanding game.
The Cyclones are at home this Sunday, Oct. 19 at Perry Browne. The D team plays at 10 a.m. versus Marcy Deerfield; the C team at noon versus North Utica; and the B team at 2 p.m. versus Oneida. Winners of the C and B games will play for next weekend’s Tri-Valley Championships slated for Saturday or Sunday.
The Cyclones cheerleaders will compete in the Tri-Valley Cheer Championship this Saturday at the Onondaga Community College SRC Arena starting at 9 a.m.
