Yoga classes to be offered at Chenango Arts Council

NORWICH – In a recent study by Yoga Journal, it was found that more than 20 million Americans practice yoga. If you are among these 20 million, you know that yoga makes you feel better – its effects are almost immediate.
If you haven’t yet joined the yoga revolution, a new program has been developed locally with its sights set on helping Chenango discover just how beneficial this simple age-old practice can be. When practiced regularly, yoga reliably increases our sense of physical health, emotional well-being, mental clarity, and spiritual connection.
The instruction will begin on October 22, and organizers urge that there is still time to register. Set on the stage of the Martin W. Kappel performing arts theater within the Chenango Arts Council, the six session Yoga series will be taught by Dawn Hahn of Universal Prana.
Hahn is a Certified Yoga Teacher and Advanced Thai Yoga Practitioner. She is also a Reiki Master and natural healer and has had extensive training in the energy healing system, chakra system, yogic scripture and philosophy, yoga postures and alignment, anatomy & physiology, breath work, and mediation & relaxation techniques.
Yoga is a form of spiritual exercise aimed at strengthening and stabilizing the body. Though guided technique, posture is improved and balance is brought back to the body by identifying and correcting the imbalance through mindful movements. Yoga's breathing techniques enhance endurance and awareness which allow you to remain calm & focused.
The best thing about yoga is that virtually anyone can practice it – people who are young and healthy as well as people well into their 80s; even individuals confined to wheelchairs can participate.
Don’t be intimidated by the exotic bends and twists you sometimes see adept practitioners putting their bodies in. There is a yoga practice that is right for your body and stage in life, and regular practice will bring you all the benefits yoga has to offer.
Classes will be held on the CAC’s Martin W. Kappel Theater stage, 27 West Main Street, Norwich on:
•Wednesdays, Oct. 22 and 29 from 6 – 7:15 p.m.
•Wednesday Nov. 5 from 6 – 7:15 p.m.
•Friday, November 7 from 6 – 7:15 p.m.
•Sundays, Oct. 26 and Nov. 2 from 4 – 5:15 p.m.
The fee for the six course session is $70 for CAC members, $80 for non-members.
Individual classes can be attended for a $12 member fee or a $15 non-member fee. Please call the Council at 336-2787/ARTS to register, and visit our website at www.chenangoarts.org for other class offerings.
