Greene eliminated from postseason
Field Hockey
Deposit 1, Greene 0 (2 OT)
DEPOSIT – Greene's field hockey team will not appear in a sectional championship game for the first time in nearly a decade.
Deposit's Makayla Smith scored with 2:05 expired in the second sudden-victory overtime period giving the Lumberjacks the tight victory.
The play initiated in the Deposit defensive zone when Greene seemed to have earned a penalty corner, but play continued as Deposit pushed the ball up the field quickly, and Smith was able to beat the Greene goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation.
"It's just heart-breaking for the seniors, and we had a great second-half of the season," said Greene coach Sue Carlin. "This team came a long way, and the girls were all very positive going into this game. We just couldn't get a good shot off today. It was one of those days, but I'm proud of the team; (the girls) had a great season."
