Three charged in joint theft investigation

NORWICH — The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of the Norwich City Police Department completed an investigation into the theft of dirt bikes from a Town of Sherburne business on Dec. 17. During the investigation, it was determined that a 2009 Yamaha 250 and 2010 Kawasaki KX 65 were stolen on Nov. 13.

On the evening of Nov. 13, prior to the items being reported stolen, deputies from the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a passenger vehicle and 2009 Yamaha 250 on County Road 32 in the Town of North Norwich. While failing to comply, the operator of the Yamaha lost control of the dirt bike and fled into the woods. David Wehrenberg was later determined to be the operator of the dirt bike and Michael Hicks to be the operator of the passenger vehicle containing the Kawasaki KX 65.

• David W. Wehrenberg, 23, Richfield Springs, was charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree from the Town of Sherburne. Wehrenberg was found to have an active arrest warrant for insurance fraud out of Otsego County. He was processed and transferred to the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office. Wehrenberg has additional charges involving the pursuit currently pending against him.
