CCSO executes ‘no knock’ warrant, heroin recovered

NORWICH – Two were the center of a drug bust following the search of a residence in the Town of Norwich on Monday.
A ‘no knock’ search warrant that had been issued by Chenango County Court Judge Frank B. Revoir Jr. permitted members of the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office to enter and search a residence on County Road 32 in the Town of Norwich.
Upon search, authorities said they found heroin, packaging material, digital scales and other drug paraphernalia.
Ward C. Lozier, 37, and Nichole E. Perrino, 25, both of Norwich were said to be at the center of the investigation and were charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a class B felony; criminal nuisance in the first degree, a class E felony; and criminal use of drug paraphernalia, a class B misdemeanor.
Lozier was additonally charged with the class B felony of criminal sale of a controlled substance in the third degree.
The warrant stemmed from an investigation by the narcotics division which involved the trafficking of heroin and cocaine. According to authorities, “They would use the home to sell out of and also make deliveries.”
Authorities said two separate packages of illegal narcotics were recovered at the scene, and that it was equivalent to approximately 80 individual packets of heroin.
A third person who happened to be at the residence at the time of the ‘no knock’ was also arrested. Daryl J. Woodbeck, 27, of Norwich, was charged with loitering in the first degree, a class B misdemeanor.
Both Lozier and Perrino were taken to the Town of Norwich Court for arraignment and were remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility in lieu of bail. Lozier’s bail was set at $10,000 cash and Perrino’s was set at $5,000.
Chenango County Sheriff Ernest R. Cutting Jr. said, “We will continue to fight against illegal drug activity that continues to plague our communites.”
CCSO K9 Jeroen was on the scene during the bust to assist. According to authorities, this was the first time K9 Jeroen was deployed with his new handler, Deputy Chad O’Hara. It was in late December of last year that the K9 team of O’Hara and K9 Jeroen became certified for drug searches.
Per a release from the CCSO, the office “hits the ground running in the new year in the battle against illegal narcotics.”
The Norwich Police Department assisted with the search warrant.
Those arrested are scheduled to appear again in court at a later date.
“We look forward to our new K9 team working closely with our Narcotics Detectives as another tool in our ongoing battle,” said Cutting.
