Film series to screen “Pay 2 Play: Democracy's High Stakes”

NORWICH – The fourth free public film showing in the 2014-15 season of the “Second Tuesday’s Monthly Film Series” is titled “Pay 2 Play: Democracy’s High Stakes.”

The screening will take place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 10 at the United Church of Christ, at 11 W. Main St. in Norwich.

The film explores the potentially corrupting system where politicians reward their campaign donors with even larger sums from the public treasury – through contracts, tax cuts, deregulation, other desired legislation, and sometimes laws even written by donors’ lobbyists.

This entertaining, but extensively researched, sourced, and interviewed educational film lays out a compelling case against corporate personhood and money as free speech which undermines democracy and creates oligarchy. The film shows how our government can be returned to its constitutional mandate as a government of the people, by the people, and for the people, maintaining one person can make a difference, inspiring hope for change.
