Hannibal 48, Sherburne-Earlville 28
SHERBURNE - Sherburne-Earlville was plagued with foul trouble, and had never got untracked on offense in a first-round Section III playoff loss Friday night to Hannibal.
Katie Pitcher had 11 points for Hannibal and Sydney Alton scored 10 for the winning club. With S-E's top scorer Lilly Berg on the bench most of the first half with foul difficulties, Hannibal was able to build a 28-9 halftime lead.
"We couldn't get into any rhythm on offense," said S-E head coach Karen Mulligan. "When Lilly was in the game, they were doubling on her. We tried to force passes into her that resulted in turnovers, and when we did get her isolated, we didn't get her the ball."
Hannibal also proved too tough defensively for the Marauders. Berg had just six points before fouling out, and top three-point shooter Savannah Irwin scored eight points.
"We settled for way too many contested three-point shots in the first half, and I also thought Hannibal won a lot of the hustle plays and outworked us,” Mulligan said.
The Marauders finish with a 13-7 record.
