Area volunteers to ‘Brave the Shave’ in support of childhood cancer research

NORWICH – The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a volunteer-driven organization dedicated to raising money for children's cancer research, will host its signature head-shaving event this Saturday, March 14, at the American Legion in Norwich.

With a goal of raising $20,000, approximately 40 volunteers have registered to “brave the shave” to support the Foundation's goal to “conquer childhood cancer.”

The event starts at 6 p.m. and is being held in the banquet hall of the American Legion at 29 Sheldon St. in Norwich.

The event is free and welcomes the public to come and cheer on volunteers. New York Central Mutual Insurance will host a photo booth at the event and Rockstar DJ service will be providing music. Food and drink will be provided by The American Legion. Throughout the night, there will be a variety of gift certificates, baskets, and other donations to be raffled off as well.

According to a release from the event, “Worldwide, a child is diagnosed with cancer every three minutes, and one in five children diagnosed in the U.S. will not survive. With only four percent of all federal cancer research funding dedicated to pediatric cancer research, St. Baldrick’s Foundation volunteers, supporters, and donors are needed to continue the battle against this devastating disease.”
