Rogers Center presents family program on composting

SHERBURNE – Learn how to incorporate food scraps and garden waste into nutrient-rich compost to help your garden flourish with The Friends of Rogers at 10:30 a.m. on April 18 at Rogers Environmental Education Center in Sherburne.
“We will explore how to start and maintain your own compost bin as well as the important role our wiggly worm friends play in helping renew the soil,” said Sarah Freedman, Friends of Rogers Environmental Educator. “All gardens benefit and grow healthier thanks to decomposers and the beautiful, brown, earthy-smelling soil they produce.”
“Participating in this Family Fun program is an ideal way to prepare for the gardening season,” said Simon Solomon, Friends of Rogers Executive Director. “As a reminder, Friends of Rogers will again offer Community Garden plots this season. More details to follow in the next few weeks, so stay tuned.”
Friends of Rogers Family Fun events are free programs held at 10:30 a.m. on the first and third Saturday of every month. Each program lasts about one hour. Recent events have included The Hunt for the Four-Hoofed Multi-Pronged Ungulate, Snow Shelters, Lazy Planters, Signs of Spring, and Egg-cellent Camouflage. Family Fun programs are an opportunity for visitors of all ages to experience hands-on learning and exploration of the natural environment.
Rogers Center is operated by Friends of Rogers Environmental Education Center, Inc., a nonprofit organization that offers educational programs for all ages. Seasonal winter hours are from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. For more information, call 674-4733 or visit FriendsofRogers.org.
