Chenango County native announces candidacy for District Attorney

CHENANGO COUNTY – Assistant Public Defender and City of Norwich resident Zachary T. Wentworth is announcing his candidacy for Chenango County District Attorney. With his announcement, Wentworth will be seeking the Republican nomination for the position held by incumbent Joseph McBride.

Wentworth is a lifelong Chenango County resident, growing up in North Pitcher and graduating from Otselic Valley Central School in 2003. After being sworn in to the New York Bar 2011, Wentworth worked for the James Taylor Law Office in Sherburne before being hired as an Assistant Public Defender for Chenango County in 2012. In his current capacity as an Assistant Public Defender, Mr. Wentworth handles Family Court matters and criminal matters at both the local and County Court levels.

Wentworth will be the first person to seek the office held by incumbent Joseph McBride, a position McBride has held unopposed since being elected in 1999. “Chenango County is ready for change,” said Wentworth when asked about his motivation for running. “More importantly, I believe the residents of Chenango County deserve the opportunity to choose their community leaders, rather than having their leaders pre-selected for them.”
